Lanzarote is positioned just off the West coast of Africa the most northeasterly of the Canary Islands. The holiday island of Lanzarote has embraced the tourism boom with a more laid-back feel than its popular sister islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Camels are often used to transport goods (and sometimes tourists) in this desert-like climate, across the dry volcanic ash that covers most of the landscape.
Lanzarote has a dramatic volcanic landscape, shaped by decades of natural events, sweeping sands, lunar scenery, beautiful beaches and one of the sunniest climates in the Canaries.
Beaches on Lanzarote are renowned for their striking beauty and contrast. White beaches can be found in the north of the island whilst dramatic, black volcanic sands are in the south.
If you decide to holiday in Lanzarote you really must visit the golden coves of Papagayo Beach, considered by many to be the most beautiful beach on Lanzarote. There is also Famara Beach famous for it's surf.
There are alternatives to spending your holiday in Lanzarote at the beach however, including the capital Arrecife. If it's History and Art that takes your fancy then Arrecife is the place to visit.
